DJ Quik's Top 5 West Coast Producers

One of our favorite producers of all time here at Street Census is undeniably the astounding DJ Quik. We last saw him a couple of years ago with the album Trauma, but now he's hooked up with longtime collaborator AMG to form The Fixxers. Their first single, "Can U Werk Wit Dat", is already causing a buzz and even got some shine on Entourage a couple weeks ago. With a Fixxers album getting ready to hit stores this summer, we quickly hit up Quik for his Top 5 West Coast producers.

"Right now, I'm doing the obscure, ish," Quik told us. "I'm not even getting into Dr. Dre, Battlecat, you can't do that. This is my Top 5, but not in this order."

Rudy Pardee - Rudy was half of west coast crew L.A. Dream Team, along with Snake Puppy. The L.A. Dream Team were a pioneering hip-hop group who had hits like "The Dream Team is in the House" and "Rockberry Jam" in the mid-80's. Pardee drowned while scuba diving in 1998. Rest in Peace.

Egyptian Lover - Egyptian Lover had the west coast on lock with his 1984 hit, "Egypt, Egypt." Egyptian Lover is still around doing the hot electro-hip-hop thing.

The Unknown DJ - Unknown DJ is another cat who made a name for himself in the 80's with electro hip-hop hits like "Let's Jam", "Beatronic" and "808 Beats".

DJ Pooh - Most of you only know DJ Pooh as "Red" in Friday, but he made classic joints for every from Ice Cube and Tupac to LL Cool J and Dogg Pound to Snoop Dogg and more recently, Young Jeezy.

DJ Bobcat - Sometimes you wonder how someone like DJ Bobcat gets slept on when making producer lists. This is the man responsible for a lot of LL's classic joints including "Bad," "I Need Love" and "Mama Said Knock You Out" as part of the L.A. Posse collective. He's also worked on Cube's Death Certificate album as part of the Boogie Men. He was also behind the boards for Tupac, MC Ren, Eazy E, Mack 10, Usher, Bow Wow, Master P, Jagged Edge and many more.
