If you were living in an urban area during the early 90's and turned on the radio to an urban station, chances are they would be playing St. Ides commercials during the break. These commercials featured the best emcees of the times and made for some classic spots. For some stations, these commercials were the only hip-hop songs you'd hear coming from their studios. King Tee was the first emcee to do spots and then he passed the baton to Ice Cube, who became a St. Ides staple. And of course later, whoever was hot at the moment got an endorsement deal. There were also TV commercials that featured Cube, Tupac & Snoop, Biggie, Rakim and others, but the radio spots were much better from a musical standpoint.
Later on, these rappers would be criticized for endorsing malt liqour which was a plague in the Urban communities, and the commercials stopped. There's no way we're endorsing drinking here. What we're doing is recognizing the music and talent that was put into making these commercials. So here's your Top 10 St Ides Radio Spots:

5. Geto Boys - My Malt's Playing Tricks on Me - Classic commercial over a classic song.
4. Scarface - Drankin Toon - Scarface's 15 year old rhymes still rip anything out today.
3. Snoop Dogg & Nate Dogg - St Ides in the LBC - This the perfect snapshot of true G-Funk of the early 90's
2. Wu-Tang - Shaolin Brew - Wow, I really miss Wu-Tang. Makes me want to grab 36 Chambers.

The list is for radio spots and I don't think Biggie did a radio commercial (or I couldn't find it). He only did a TV commercial which is linked up top.
